Heat slowly and uniformly at 1000°C. After forging ,it is to be cooled slowly in furnace or in an thermoinsulating material.

Slowly heated to 780°C and then cooled slowly in furnace to 600°C and then it has to be air cooled.

In order to minimise distortion or cracking during the heat treatment, stress relieving is advised ,specially when heavy grinding or heavy machining is to be carried out. Stress relieving is carried out by heating the tools slowly at 650°C, soaking for minimum 2hours/ 25mm of section and then allowing cooling down in furnace to 500°C and after that cool it freely in air. Thus tools can be finish machined, leaving on allowance for the final grinding after the hardening process and tempering process.

1.2083 steel is pre heated to 600-700°C. Continue heating it to final hardening temperature of 980-1050°C, allowing it to be heated through. The component can be protected against decarburisation by using neutral salt bath in a controlled atmosphere furnace or in the vacuum. The component is air cooled or quenched in oil.

1.2083 is to be heated uniformly and thoroughly to selected tempering temperature and then holding at heat for 1hour/ 25mm of total thickness. We recommend double tempering . Tempering is recommended at 250°C in order to achieve good hardness, toughness and good corrosion resistance.

Temperature [°C] 100 200 300 400 500 600
Hardness [HRc] 56 54 52 54 53 34

Wet grinding is preferred using a good supply of coolant. Using a very soft wheel ,if dry grinding is to be resorted.
