P20 hh Steel

P-20 Hi hard steel  is  supplied in  prehardened condition. Special melting / refining  are utilized in order to produce a uniform product which will have exceptional cleanliness. Thus making  P-20hh steel  being  polished to  extremely high finish, which is  required for plastic molding. Hardness of prehardened steel is  352/461 BHN. The chemical composition of the alloys of  P-20 HI HARD steel  gives it  a uniform hardness.

Form of Supply

Forging

P20 hh Steel is heated slowly and forged at1050°C( not below  930°C). Then it is cooled slowly.

Annealing

P20hh Steel is heated four hours  uniformly at a temperature of  770-790°C

, then soaked well and cooled down slowly in furnace at  10°C /hour max to 650°C  and then cooled in air.

Stress Relieving

P20 HH Steel is heated to 460-500°C, then soaked well and cooled in air or is cooled in the furnace at room temperature. In order to relieve machine strains, stabilizing is recommended before finishing the machining,in parts where dies have to be heavily machined.

Hardening

Uniformly P20 hh Steel is heated to 820-840°C and then oil quenched.

Tempering

Uniform heating and soaking at tempering temperature is needed for minimum 1hour/25mm of section. Then it is cooled  in still air.

Nitriding

In order to give P20 hh steel a good wear resistance case(of approx.  Rockwell C60 surface hardness), it can be nitrided. Corrosion resistance is increased  by Nitriding.Nitriding is done in ammonia gas at 525°C with approx. 650HV surface hardness.

Temperature Time Approx. Depth of Case
525ºC 20 hours 0.30mm
525ºC 40 hours 0.35mm
525ºC 60 hours 0.50mm

Carburising / Case Hardening

P20 hh tool steel can have a 55-59HRC surface hardness.

Tufftriding

700HV surface hardness can e attained by tuffriding at 570ºC.

Hard Chromium Plating

After this process, tempering at 180°C for 4hours is required, thus prevents hydrogen emrittlement.

Flame / Induction Hardening

P20 hh attains 50-55HRC hardness after induction/flame hardening. Immediate tempering is required after hardening.P20 hh steel then needs to be air cooled.

Heat Treatment

It varies according to the shape and size of P20hh  steel. P20hh  steel is heated to 871-899 ºC in  carburizing medium. After carburization, P20hh  is heated to 816-871 ºC , then hold on for 15minutes. After this, oil quenching is done.
